LANDING - Weymouth, MA
A historic Federalist-style farmhouse on Boston’s South Shore, originally constructed in 1838, has been thoughtfully updated and expanded with a 1,000-square-foot addition. The original 1,500-square-foot home was revitalized to accommodate modern living while preserving its historical charm. The transformation includes a new arrival deck, a welcoming foyer, a flexible suite that can function as a library or guest bedroom, a practical mudroom, and an expansive master suite with its own private balcony.
The design of the addition strikes a careful balance between honoring the traditional character of the original structure and introducing a contemporary approach to architectural massing and detailing. The main volume of the expansion is clad in painted cedar shingles, chosen to harmonize with the historic look of the original farmhouse. Recessed and protruding sections of the addition are highlighted with clear cedar clapboards, creating a subtle yet distinctive contrast that underscores the modern addition while respecting the home’s historical roots.
This project demonstrates our firm’s expertise in historic home renovations and sensitive architectural additions, where we merge the beauty of traditional design with contemporary sensibilities. The result is a home that honors its historic legacy while meeting the needs of modern life in a timeless and harmonious way.
